As parents it’s our duty to be updated about kids mind status in this competitive world. Lack of focus is so common in children. But it is important to complete any given task in specific time period so they need focussing skills. Is your kid lagging behind in academics? Lack of concentration can be one of major reason among others. So, here I am telling you few ideas which can help your kiddoos.
1) Include timer: – As you sit with your child to help them finish their class homework or any other fun task. Always make a rule to use timer, so that they can finish task in specific time period. Focus and importance of time both they can better understand. Use watch or hour glass sand timer depends on age of kids.
2) Sleep schedule: – Sleep is very must for everyone. Kids need 8-10 hours of sound sleep without any distraction. Let child be in bed by 8:00pm and bed time stories do wonders on their mind. Alarm time for them can be 6:00am and try to wake them by giving tight huggee and recite OM in ears. So, their morning starts by listening so amazing words. What best can you ask for?
3) Healthy food: – Food play important role in improving kids focussing skills. Include colourful fruits, vegetables, pulses, milk, multi-grain bread, veggies oats chilla (my daughter like it), chapatti, homemade paneer, stuffed parathas etc.
Avoid junk food, kinder joy, high sugary food and drinks, chocolates, candies, ice cream etc.
I know that it is not easy to convince them but try to give them more colourful and healthier version of it. Slowly their taste buds will develop tastes and they start liking it as well.
- Use coconut water instead of sugary drinks.
- Most of kids do not like veggies like Gobi, beans, capsicum etc. Try to hide them in paratha’s or in sandwich. Oats chilla is also another best alternate.
- Must try
- If a kid does not want to drink milk then do not run behind them by taking glass or pressurise them by saying that I will do complaint to papa. Let it be. You can give alternate choices like paneer, fruit smoothie with yogurt, tempting kheer with different toppings, cottage cheese with fresh fruit.
- Most of the children do not like plain milk, so try to give them as mixing in oatmeal, homemade milkshakes or smoothies, sometimes in tomato soups.
- Our munchkins get attracted by shinning wrapper with unhealthy items (candies, chocolates, chips etc) in it. So, we can do magic by wrapping energy balls like oats lollipops, date nuts laddu, fruit popsicles(summer), granola bites etc in same paper. Taste buds of little kiddos at the age of 3-4 for all food items can be easily developed, so in future they would not be fussy about food.
We have to think magically with little creative ideas and wonder would surely occur in form of kid’s health and guaranteed focus in class work and all other extra activities will be maintained.
So, mom need to be creative with best food choices. At play school or toddlers age, we can develop their interest in all type of foods and its result can be seen in future in form of studies performance.
4) Less screen time: – Keep one hour fixed for kids in front of TV, computer or video games etc. in a day is sufficient for entertainment, as well as to relax their brain. Parents should also use less of mobile especially in front of little ones, as they follow you. So, try to be a good role model for them.
5) Distraction-free ambience: – To boost focus, it is essential that kids work place should be quiet and gadget free. Before letting him or her to start any work, always give fruit or any snack item and water, otherwise thirst and hunger could be their excuse to get up and lose their continuity in studies.
Always keep their stationary items and book in their reach. You can paste beautiful quotes above their study table.
6) Breathing exercise: – It is a magical tool that we can gift to kids without any side effects. It is best way to relax in easy way, both by body and by brain too. These are best to re-fresh and re-focus busy mind and break time as well.
Let our littles practice in a fun way like using bubbles, pinwheel, coloured feather.
7) Divide work into parts: – If lot of school homework comes, then try to divide big in to small tasks or project, so that kid will fully enjoy and do it lively too, not as a burden.
8) Counting backward from 100: – It is a great idea to distract them from what is bothering, and they can again focus on useful activity.
9) Include extra-curricular activity: – Activities add extra feather in your kid’s talent which boost their focus and motivate them. Any sort of interest like painting, dancing, taekwondo, singing, gymnastics’, playing instruments, sports activity etc depending on age and school work time. Along with academics, it is essential to be good in other field as well.
10) Go for music and dance: – Both art form completely relaxes kids mind as they enjoy doing funny movements and voice. For perfection, we can put them in classes.
11) Bring focus games: – Games that require detailed planning and use of memory help kids to build interest and solve their focus issue to great extent. There are so many games like puzzles, flash card, statue, tongue twisters, peanut butter jelly and coin game, picture copying, dot to dot puzzle etc. All are so wonderful games that involve fun and helps to maintain attention span.
- Others can be always admiring your kids hard work, even small improvement in class.
- Try to involve them in stress-free task every day like drinking milk via straw, squeezing smiley balls, playing with putty or dough, doing jumping jacks etc.
- Take kids help in doing small household chores like arranging socks, peeling potato, or peas etc. My daughter like it too much. All kids really enjoy that small things.
- Give only one simple instruction at a time. It’s not like that one by one you tell all task completely to be done by kids. They got confused and might be fussy and would not to any work.
- Always make habit of reading story book loudly so that it improves their listening skills and focus as well.
By applying simple and creative above activities, parents can maintain and boost their focusing skills. Keep them motivated through little rewards in any form and it will aid their school performance and for better future goals.
